Latin Dance Night 2019
Updated: Aug 5, 2020

On Saturday, October 12th, the Latinx community of Urbana-Champaign came together to celebrate their culture through a free dance night at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. With UIUC alumnus Miguel Coronel as DJ (email: info@chicagonoize.com insta and twitter: @followthenoize facebook: @follownoize), a steady stream of Latinx anthems pervaded the building, along with the synchronized stomps and festive shouts of a proud people.

Saturday’s dance marked the 6th biannual Latin Dance Night at UIUC. Music included recent hits from artists such as Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee, and CNCO, as well as beloved throwbacks by artists like Selena, Celia Cruz, Romeo Santos, Las Ketchups, and Angel & Khriz. The genres ranged from reggaeton and LatinX pop to familiar standards of salsa, merengue, bachata, cumbia, and banda music; the variety of music paralleled the diverse origins of those dancing to it.
